What is Nahodha Design

Nahodha means captain, my sister molly was in the Peace Corps in Tanzania Africa, and because i am a Captain, she started calling me Nahodha which is Captain in Kiswahilli. So i thought it was a good name for my newly forming design company. It is a good name, except a lot of people don't pronounce it correctly, let alone spell it right.

Nahodha Design LLC is owned and opperated by me, Nick Steinbauer, and was started in 2005, shortly after my Graduation from Bowling Green State University, in Visual Communications Technology.

As an entrepenuer by heart, i never really looked for a job right out of college, because i knew i wanted to be the boss! From those humble part-time origins of a do anything designer, i started really specializing in web site design and development. I soon found out about 80% of what i was taught in school was not right, it may have been right 5+ years before, but a new way of designing websites was taking hold, Web Standards. I soon started to teach myself html code and css, and started developing websites according to the rules of web standards. By separating Design and html markup, and not using tables for design, it allowed sites to be build leaner, and much easier for search engines to find.

About a year after that i found out about Content Management Systems, and in particular an open source one called Joomla. Luckily for me the second generation Joomla 1.5 CMS was just coming out, which allowed out of the box semantic written code to be allowed.

This allowed for me to write correct code in the form of templates and allow all my users edit their own sites, and to use the 1000's of extentions available to the Joomla community.
